Leave your new earring in for 6 to 8 weeks before removing it. If your ear feels sore, resume care and wait 1 to 2 more weeks before making any changes.
What to do
Wash your hands before touching your piercing. Twice a day, clean gently with a non-irritating, plant-based soap or a saline spray, then rinse thoroughly. Only clean your piercing in the shower, not at the sink, and let the water soften anything before rinsing. Do not move the jewelry during the first month; after that, you may gently rotate it while cleaning.
What to avoid
Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, or ear care solutions. Do not remove the earring while cleaning, or take it out before your piercing is fully healed. Avoid touching, twisting, or playing with your piercing outside of cleaning. Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, or the ocean while healing, and be mindful of headphones, hats, or anything that rests against your ear.
